SKY-WALK MARINE DRIVE

Sky walk/ elevated walkway is the safest amenity to cross busy roads as they keep pedestrians well away from the dangers of traffic.

SITE FEATURES

  • Location identified is across Shanmugham Road which is aligned in betweenMarine Drive the picturesque promenade in Kochi and Broad Way is also an important shopping avenue which reminds the past glory of Kochi
  • Shanmugham Roadis crowded with pedestrians,since both sides of this road are popular places, frequent pedestrian movement occurs across this road throughout the day.
  • Zebra crossing provided near Menakabus stop, won?t be sufficient to serve the purpose in the coming future.

DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

  • The proposed elevated pedway is proposed to connect Marine Drive shopping area to the other side of the four-lane Shanmugham Road.
  • In the midway of the pedway a small kiosk will be provided as a security watch. To keep the antisocial activities away from this facility, the side guards will be provided with transparent material for the escalators and the pedway.
  • Roofing as weather protection will also be provided with suitable material which can pass enough lighting inside this facility

PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS

  • Escalators are provided for upward and downward movement of the pedestrians at both ends of this elevated pedway.
  • The pedwayis provided with 6.5m clearance above the carriage way.
  • Sensors will be provided for these four escalators (two on both ends) to minimize the power consumption.
  • The approximate cost of construction is about 5crore.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

    • Since frequent pedestrian movement occurs across this road throughout the day this facility will decrease the traffic congestion
    • Escalators are provided for the easiness of the users.
    • Keep pedestrians together where they can cross most safely across the flow of vehiculartraffic.
